Obstacle Sports Canada (OSC) is the national governing body and registered non-profit for Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) and Ninja sports in Canada. We manage athlete development programs, provide pathways for coaches and officials, and oversees national competitions, including standardized 100-meter and 400-meter sprint events as well as 3k to 15k cross country events.
Key Functions and Activities
- Athlete Development: OSC provides training resources, and developmental pathways for both beginner and elite Canadian athletes.
- Officials Certification: OSC delivers judge certification through the World Obstacle framework, covering three technical pathways — OCR Cross Country, OCR Track, and Ninja. Officials progress through levels from Assistant Judge up to International Judge, each requiring an exam and hands-on experience, building toward eligibility to officiate at national, continental, and world championship events.
- Coaching Certification: OSC delivers coach development through the FISO Coach Education Programme, a structured pathway from grassroots Level 1 through Master Coach Trainer at Level 7. Coaches advance by combining certified training with hands-on practice — 100 hours of coaching experience is required to progress to each new level, and to maintain certification every two years.
- National & International Representation: OSC selects and manages Team Canada for prestigious international events, including the OCR World Championships.
- Event Hosting & Sanctioning: OSC organizes and sanctions events across the country, ranging from local Ninja challenges to 100M, 5K and 10K OCR races.
- Modern Pentathlon Integration: OSC has partnered with Pentathlon Canada to incorporate obstacle racing as the fifth official discipline in modern pentathlon.

None of this work happens without the athletes, coaches, officials, and community members who support it directly. As a volunteer-run, not-for-profit organization, OSC relies on membership to fund coaching and officiating certification, athlete development programs, event sanctioning nationwide, and Canada's representation on the world stage.
An annual OSC membership costs just $25 and goes directly toward growing OCR and Ninja in Canada. Membership isn't just a way to give back — it's also a requirement: athletes must be OSC members in good standing to compete for Team Canada at official FISO OCR World Championship events, including the 2026 Championships in Limerick, Ireland.
